About Leowood Art

Leonardo Cappellini is the creative heart of Leowood Art. His passion for wood working, nature and sustainability all come together in each of his wood vases and wood sculptures. Leonardo works from his home and workshop in the hills above Florence. He finds inspiration and solace in the woods that surround him. Leonardo continually evolves as an artisan, driven by his desire to explore all that he and his art can be. He has shown his work throughout Italy, has collaborated with an artisan from Japan, growing his craft beyond his Italian heritage. There are no pretenses with Leonardo, he does what he loves because his passion is strong that he must do it. Each creation is an extension of his passion, his dreams and his desire to give new life to trees that are ready for a new beginning.

The Wood Sculpture Dionysius' broad shape of this kylix, Ancient Greek drink cup, invites a toast to life, while the grain of the briarwood evokes the atmosphere of celebration and joy. The artisan Leonardo masterfully carved the wood sculpture out of briar wood, a hard heat resistant wood, often used for making pipes.  Exquisitely detailed, with each crack, hole and grain kept in their original shape to highlight the beautiful design of the Wood Sculpture Dionysius.  Leonardo always uses reclaimed wood and carries out each step of the process from drying to carving, to finishing with his own hands, full of passion for the wood. The briar wood, with its beautiful grain, captures the naturalness of wood through pure and soft lines.
