Leonardo Cappellini is the creative heart of Leowood Art. His passion for wood working, nature and sustainability all come together in each of his wood vases and wood sculptures. Leonardo works from his home and workshop in the hills above Florence. He finds inspiration and solace in the woods that surround him. Leonardo continually evolves as an artisan, driven by his desire to explore all that he and his art can be. He has shown his work throughout Italy, has collaborated with an artisan from Japan, growing his craft beyond his Italian heritage. There are no pretenses with Leonardo, he does what he loves because his passion is strong that he must do it. Each creation is an extension of his passion, his dreams and his desire to give new life to trees that are ready for a new beginning.

The Olive Wood Vase was crafted with meticulous attention to detail.  This pomegranate shaped vase has a rounded, flattened shape, with a crown at the top, reminiscent of the shape of the pomegranate fruit with ruby red seeds. Olive wood is one of the most difficult woods to carve. It is also very rare making this piece even more of a treasure.

The Inspiration

The vase is turned fresh, allowed to dry, and turned again to arrive at the final, stable shape. Some “holes” are present on the surface of the vase due to the irregularity of the olive root. The graining of the wood and existence of the holes inspired the shape of the pomegranate in this wood vase.
