The Mamita filigree earrings are an exquisite example of round filigree work. There is a dramatic contrast between the filigreed disc and the smooth tear drop shape. The contrast in textures make a dramatic statement with any outfit. The filigree wraps around the disc like a shell found on the white sand beaches lining the Sardinia coast where each pair of Mamita earrings is made by hand. 

They are molded using the lost wax technique and then reworked by hand. This technique is an important part of Italian history and culture. Each piece of jewelry is made honoring the tradition that has been passed down through centuries. 

The art of filigree has been used by Etruscans as early as the 9th Century BC and is now one of the many treasures of the Mediterranean cultural heritage. Similar to metal embroidery, its ornaments are composed of gold threads skilfully intertwined. The various motifs formed by the honeycomb filigree grains recall wheat grains and have a symbolic function: wishes of abundance, prosperity and love.
