About Rey
Rey has been living in Tuscany for over 15 years. In Tuscany he finds inspiration from the artisan community, nature and the beauty of slow living. He was taught carving by his grandfather in Cuba before immigrating to Italy. His love for the craft and the connection with his ancestors and his chosen country are evident in each piece he creates from his workshop in Lucca Italy.
The Donne Surreali Olive Wood Sculpture is at once erotic and philosophical.
The Donne Surreali Olive Wood Sculpture combines exceptional craftsmanship and elegant design, making it a superb sculpture for any art lover. “Donne Surreali” means “Surreal Women” in English. The Donne Surreali sculpture is hand carved from one of the hardest woods there is-olive wood. Its exceptional graining of the olive wood enhance the stunning features of this philosophical sculpture.
Exquisite Craftsmanship

ARTIST INFO
One of the things that struck us first was that Rey works in olive wood. It is one of the hardest woods and therefore most sculptors generally shy away from it. But Rey doesn’t, even though it is extremely difficult to find. Olive trees in Italy are highly protected by government regulations and the wood is coveted, so finding pieces large enough to sculpt can often be a challenge in itself.
