Ciro Travertine Lamp Sculpture

The Ciro Travertine Lamp Sculpture is a tribute to the discovery of the Neapolitan baby dinosaur: it is made of travertine and multicolored onyx.

The porous appearance with an ancient flavor of travertine lends itself well to depicting a prehistoric animal, which the artist has chosen to make in a stylized manner, with open jaws and a luminous barrel on the tail.

Cyrus (Ciro) is one of the most important fossils in the history of paleontology: a baby dinosaur of a new species (Scipionyx Samniticus) discovered in Benevento in the 1990s. A dinosaur as long as a cat, weighing 200 grams. The exceptional state of preservation of its internal organs made it possible to establish that some dinosaurs were warm-blooded and provided other valuable information to scholars about these extraordinary animals.
